Leather is a living material. It breathes, it ages, and it develops character over time. One of the things I love most about pre-owned luxury is that the leather has already begun its patina journey. With proper care, your bag will continue to look better year after year.
Cleaning
For routine maintenance, a soft, dry microfiber cloth is your best friend. Gently wipe the surface to remove dust and oils. For more thorough cleaning, use a leather-specific cleaner applied with a soft cloth in circular motions. Never use water, soap, or household cleaners — these can strip the leather's natural oils and cause discoloration.
Conditioning
Leather needs moisture to stay supple. Every 3-6 months, apply a thin layer of quality leather conditioner using a soft cloth. Less is more — a small amount worked in gently will nourish the leather without leaving residue. Allow it to absorb for 30 minutes, then buff lightly with a clean cloth.
Storage
When not in use, store your bag stuffed with acid-free tissue paper to maintain its shape. Keep it in the dust bag it came with, or a breathable cotton pillowcase. Never store leather in plastic — it needs to breathe. Avoid direct sunlight and humid environments, which can cause fading and mold.
Hardware Care
Gold-tone and silver hardware can tarnish over time. Gently buff with a jewelry polishing cloth, avoiding the leather surfaces. For stubborn tarnish, a tiny amount of metal polish on a cotton swab can work wonders — but be extremely careful not to touch the leather.
Professional Care
For significant restoration — edge painting, strap replacement, or deep cleaning — seek a professional leather specialist. Attempting major repairs at home can cause irreversible damage. We are always happy to recommend trusted specialists in your area.
